For outdoor identification of plants classically field guides are used. However, the use of such books requires certain knowledge and experience, furthermore they are limited by their information coverage. In the frame of a pilot project it is aimed at investigating if mobil phones can be used as innovative identification tools. Modern mobile phones with integrated camera and an open software platform open up new possibilities. Therefore the goal is to develop new techniques and methods to identify plants efficiently.
The thesis should focus on the identification of broad-leaved trees by means of their leaves. Based on the results of a preceding work and already existing approaches an efficient solution should be elaborated. Possible advantages go from full automatic identification to multimedia-based preparation of additional information.
